Disclaimer, in plain words

Last updated: 10 August 2026

The short version: we write down what happened to our plants, what fixed it, and what the research says. We do our homework and we mean every word — but what you do with it in your own home is your decision and your responsibility. This page spells that out properly.

General information, not professional advice

Everything on this site — the guides, the rescue logs, the courses, the e-books, the cheatsheets, the newsletter, and anything we say in the community — is general information based on our own experience and the sources we cite. It is not professional horticultural, veterinary, medical, legal, or financial advice, and it is not tailored to your plant, your home, or your situation. For advice you intend to rely on, consult a qualified professional.

Acting on our guides is at your own risk

You follow our guides at your own risk. To the maximum extent permitted by law, we accept no liability for any loss or damage — to plants, pots, floors, furniture, pets, or people — arising from the use of, or reliance on, anything published on this site or in our products and emails. If you repot at the wrong moment, cut the wrong root, or move the calathea and she notices: that one is between you and her.

Nothing on this page excludes or limits liability that cannot be excluded or limited under applicable law — such as liability for intent or gross negligence, or your statutory consumer rights. Those always stand.

Pets and children

Where we say a plant is pet-safe or pet-toxic, we rely on reputable sources (such as the ASPCA lists) at the time of writing. Toxicity knowledge changes, lists get updated, and individual animals react differently. Always verify with your own vet before trusting a plant around an animal that chews. If a pet or child has eaten part of a plant, contact a vet or doctor immediately — not our comment section.

Accuracy and freshness

We research before we publish and we update entries when we learn better (the “last updated” date on an entry is real). But we make no guarantee that any page is complete, current, or correct for your situation. Houseplant care is a field where honest people disagree; when the stakes are high, get a second opinion.

Paid guides and courses

Our paid e-books and courses are the same kind of general information as the free guides — researched, honest, and not personalized advice. They are provided as-is; this disclaimer applies to them in full. Your statutory consumer rights on purchases are not affected by anything on this page.

Community content

Questions, replies, and memorials on the board and the graveyard are written by their authors and reflect their views, not ours. We moderate for kindness and spam, but we do not verify or endorse community advice, and we are not responsible for it. Spot something harmful? Use the report button or mail hello@leafjournal.app and we will look at it quickly.

External links

We link out to studies, tools, and other sites when it helps. Those sites are not ours: we have no control over their content and accept no responsibility for it. A link is a pointer, not an endorsement of everything behind it.

Questions

Anything on this page unclear, or something you want to flag? Mail hello@leafjournal.app and a human will answer. When our practices change, this page changes first and the “last updated” date moves.
