snake plant: thrives on neglect

snake plant (Sansevieria trifasciata)
survived my dark hallway. and me.
buy again

9/10

the only plant that prefers you forget it.

the experiment i didn't mean to run

mine lived in a hallway with one sad north window. i watered it when i remembered, which was roughly never. one year later: two new leaves and an attitude. this plant survived the victorian era on gas lamps — it will survive your apartment.

the only way to kill it

love. specifically: water. a snake plant in soggy soil rots from the bottom up, and by the time you notice, it's a salad. if you're an overwaterer, this is paradoxically the worst easy plant for you.
