Switch one plant from the calendar to the check
You learn to water by the plant by actually doing it for a week. Pick one plant and let its soil, not a schedule, tell you when to pour.
- 1.Choose one plant and confirm its pot has a drainage hole (repot or swap to a nursery pot if not).
- 2.Water it thoroughly until it drains, empty the saucer, then lift the pot and remember how heavy full feels.
- 3.Every day for a week, do the finger check — second knuckle deep — and lift the pot to feel its weight.
- 4.Only water again when the finger check comes out dry at that depth; note the day it happened.
- 5.When you water, water thoroughly and empty the saucer again — and write down how many days the drying actually took.
Done looks like: You know how many days this specific plant takes to dry, and you watered it once because it needed it, not because it was a certain day.
