Mix one correct, half-strength feed

The mistake is almost always dose, not brand. Mixing one feed at the right strength — and writing it down — sets the habit for the whole growing season.

  1. 1.Read your fertiliser label and find its recommended dose (e.g. a capful or a number of millilitres per litre of water).
  2. 2.Put that dose into the fertilizer calculator, or simply halve it yourself, to get a half-strength mix.
  3. 3.Mix that dose into a watering can of water and feed a plant that is actively growing.
  4. 4.Write today's date and the dilution on a note by the plant, or in your log, so you can space out the next feed.
  5. 5.Put a reminder to stop feeding when growth slows for winter.
Done looks like: You have fed one growing plant at roughly half the label rate and recorded the date and dose, so you are feeding on purpose, not by guess.
