Module 5 · Spotting trouble early — the weekly walk

Your field work

26 / 33

Your field work · About 30 minutes the first time, then ten minutes a week

Do your first weekly walk and log it

The habit only counts once you have done it once and written it down. Do a full walk today and start the log — the first entry is the hardest one.

  1. 1.Download the weekly walk log and open it in your spreadsheet app, or keep a plain notes list.
  2. 2.Pick a weekly day you will remember — pin the walk to something you already do (sunday coffee, bin day).
  3. 3.Walk to every plant and check the five things: soil, leaves, new growth, pot and overall look.
  4. 4.Turn over a few leaves on each plant and inspect the undersides and joints for pests.
  5. 5.Write one line per plant — date, plant, what you noticed, what you did (even if that was nothing).
Done looks like: You have a dated first row for every plant and a fixed day in your week to add the next one.
